Watermelon Moonshine

This recipe is a great way to capture the sweet, refreshing taste of watermelon in a potent and delicious drink

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of fresh watermelon juice from 1 large ripe watermelon
  • 1 ½ cups of sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 cup of raisins or cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon of your favorite spice cinnamon, vanilla extract, or cloves work well
  • 2 cups of 120 proof moonshine or Everclear

Instructions

  • Prepare the Watermelon Juice: Cut the watermelon into chunks and blend it to extract the juice. Strain the juice through a cheesecloth to remove any pulp and seeds.
  • Mix Ingredients: In a large pot, combine the watermelon juice, sugar, and your chosen spice. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Add Raisins: Add the raisins or cranberries to the mixture. This will help with the fermentation process.
  • Simmer: Heat the mixture over medium heat and let it simmer for about 45 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together.
  • Cool Down: Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool to room temperature.
  • Combine with Moonshine: Once cooled, pour the mixture into a large mason jar and add the moonshine or Everclear. Stir well to combine.
  • Infuse: Seal the jar and let it sit in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks. The longer it sits, the more the flavors will develop.
  • Strain and Serve: After the infusion period, strain the mixture to remove the raisins and any remaining solids. Your watermelon moonshine is now ready to enjoy!
