Crispy Oven-Baked Quesadillas: A Healthier Twist on a Classic

Ingredients

  • 8 flour tortillas 8-inch
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or your favorite cheese blend
  • 1 cup your favorite filling e.g., shredded chicken, ground beef, beans, vegetables
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Prepare filling: If using meat, cook it until browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease.
  • Assemble quesadillas:
  • Lay a tortilla flat on a baking sheet.
  • Spread about 1/4 cup of your chosen filling over one half of the tortilla.
  • Top with 1/4 cup of shredded cheese.
  • Fold the tortilla in half, pressing down to seal.
  • Brush with oil: Drizzle a little olive oil over the top of each quesadilla. This will help them become crispy.
  • Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tortillas are golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Cut into wedges and serve with your favorite dipping sauces, such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.

Notes

Tips for extra crispy quesadillas:
Use a high-quality flour tortilla that holds its shape well.
Don't overload the quesadillas with filling. Too much filling can make them soggy.
Don't skip the oil! Brushing the tortillas with oil is key to achieving a crispy texture.
If you want extra crispy quesadillas, you can bake them for a few more minutes or broil them briefly.
